Concerning ostracism in the traditional Chechen society

The article discusses the institutions of social influence on a person in the traditional Chechen society. In the absence of the state, the Chechen traditional society had developed the mechanisms of impact and conviction of offenders. The justice system in Chechnya consisted of village courts "Khel" that rendered verdicts on criminal and domestic cases, and Mehk Khel - the Court of the Country, which considered the cases of national affairs. With the adoption of Islam in Chechnya from the mid XVI century the procedure was carried out by quadi according to the Sharia. At the same time crimes and misdemeanors of moral nature were condemned by the Chechens’ adat and through the institution of public opinion.
