Russia-United States relations have gone through many ups and downs in the past ten to fifteen years. They include the short-term thaw seen in the early 2000s, and Obama's “Reset” started in 2009, which failure was announced in March 2014, and the current stage of the crisis that has already been nicknamed ‘the new Cold War’ in the Western media. The Russian Federation was wrongfully accused of its aggressive actions due to the annexation of Crimea; a number of sanctions were approved against individuals, businesses and officials from Russia and Ukraine. Although Russia and the United States have had the periods of confrontation before, the current situation appears to be more unpredictable and volatile. But despite the serious crisis in the relations with the US and EU, Russia still needs the collaboration with them. Imposing reciprocal sanctions, the Russian government has to act in a reasonable manner. At the same time, the United States and Western countries continue to impose new sanctions pushing Russia for greater cooperation with China, which has resulted in jointly implementing large-scale projects. As the passions around Ukraine subside, the United States and Europe are expected to be more aware of increasing threat from Sino-Russian rapprochement.
