Quality characteristics of employment: differentiation of related concepts

Employment is not only an economic, but also a social phenomenon. As a result, an employer who is interested in higher performance of an enterprise, as well as a state with a social-oriented model of the economy face new problems linking the labor sphere with the quality of individuals’ lives. Solution of these issues can be supported by studying the qualitative characteristics of employment. This article provides an overview of scientific papers (both Russian and foreign) on the qualitative aspects of employment. Methods for assessing the quality characteristics of employment developed by major international organizations are analyzed. The International Labor Organization, the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development were taken into account. There are four main concepts that have key differences, but are used interchangeably: the quality of employment, the job quality, the quality of working life / the work quality, the efficiency of employment...
