The department of Russian church history at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy at the turn of the 20th century

The author presents a brief overview of the establishment and early development of the Department of Church History at St. Petersburg Theological Academy. The Department was founded in 1869, and ceased to exist in 1918, when the Academy was closed. During this time-period, various well-known scholars occupied the chair, including Archpriest Pavel Nikolayevsky, A. Kartashev, N. Nikolʹsky, and B. Titlinov. Each of these professors brought his unique contribution to the development of Church History as a scholarly field in Russia.
