How to read "We" by E. Zamyatin

The work of the Russian avantgarde, the novel "We" by E. Zamyatin, today, more than a hundred years after its creation, with its revolutionary poetics, in many respects the poetics of minimalism, poses a task for readers that many do not even suspect, and therefore remain only at the fi rst level, i.e., at the storyline level. However, much of the novel is written through "gaps", riddles and clues, and to fully understand its beauty and intent, it is necessary to read it the way the author imagined it. In the article (mainly by the method of close reading and philological analysis), using examples of the use of dashes, the names of characters, the ideologemes revolution and aging and the lexeme happiness , the complexity of this wonderful novel is indicated.
