How digital technologies changed “Gutenberg machine”

Information and communication technologies as the basis of the information society revolutionized the society, all spheres of life, the man himself. The purpose of this article is to examine the impact of digital technologies on print, the starting point of which was the invention of printing in Germany by Johann Gutenberg. A sharp increase in information capabilities allowed classifying printing as an information revolution that affected the whole future history of human civilization. Implying the whole complex of printed technologies mastered by mankind since the middle of the 15 century, the most important events in the methods of replicating information in the pre-digital era, their changes related to scientific and technical and social progress are briefly considered under the "Gutenberg machine". Industrial (polygraphic), office, home replicating is highlighted; it is shown to what innovations led the introduction of digital technologies. Based on the concept of historical development proposed by Alvin Toffler, an analysis of the manifestation of signs of the Third Wave of Changes in the transition from an industrial society to an information society related to printing processes was carried out. In conclusion, we note some features related to the Gutenberg machine and its first product - a book that has manifested itself in modern conditions.
