The threat of development of overtourism in large cities of Russia at the peak of the tourist season is characterized in connection with the expected growth of domestic tourism. The phenomenon of overtourism is considered as a phenomenon that causes damage to all participants in tourist interactions in the form of: destruction of landscape and historical and cultural attractions of the area; decrease in satisfaction of both local residents with the quality of life in the city of residence, and visitors with an excessive density of visitors and a decrease in the quality of services; increasing the cost of restoring the natural and cultural features of the destination. It is shown that it is necessary to move from a consumer attitude to a tourist destination to the concept of sustainable tourism, designed to regulate and prevent the negative consequences of overtourism in the economic, social, and cultural terms. The possibility of preventing overtourism by developing alternative tourist routes is substantiated. The features of ecotourism are revealed, which consist in the preservation of the natural, landscape cultural benefits of the destination in the process of rest and recreation in the territories of natural heritage in the interests of future generations. Presented are: a general description of the Kamskoe Ustye as a developing ecotourism destination in the Republic of Tatarstan; route from Kazan; some reserves, natural monuments and sights; accommodation facilities. Further research will be aimed at assessing the tourism potential of the region, developing investment projects for the development of ecotourism.
