Cardinal Lubomyr Husar as the primate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic church

The study discusses the archpastoral ministry, scientific and theologian activities of the Primate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Cardinal and the Major Archbishop Lubomyr Husar. It reviews the major events of his life: his origin, education, pastoral and archpastoral ministry. The system of church-public and church-state views of this religious figure is described. The paper analyzes the ecumenical stand of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church taken by its primate in the context of its relationship with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and the religious organizations of non-canonical orthodoxy (Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church). The research evaluates the contribution of Cardinal Lubomyr Husar to the institutional development of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the first decade of the 20th century. The author concluded that Lubomyr Husar took an active part in developing the Ukrainian nationalism and shifting the focus of its policy on the continuing confrontation with the Russian Orthodox Church.
