The author of this article conducts a study of how life is understood in the hermeneutic philosophical tradition. The author considered a number of sources which provide not only the thoughts of hermeneutics of the XXth century, but also of contemporary philosophers, and a number of primary sources, thanks to which it is possible to draw conclusions about the understanding of life in the hermeneutic tradition. This theme could be called actual because these points of view on life and personality exist nowadays as well, and especially hermeneutical interpretation of life is the interest to the leading humanitarian disciplines - philosophy and psychology.
