China - EU: main areas of security cooperation (2016-2018)

Since the beginning of the 21st century, China and the European Union have been stressing their intention to expand bilateral cooperation in response to the global challenges. However, the EU had enough political and economic reasons to keep China at a distance. The unpredictable foreign and trade policies of the current US President D. Trump made several experts talk about a new trend towards the increased collaboration between the EU and China. The research analyzes the main areas of Chinese-European security cooperation in 2016-2018, their impact on the deepening of China-EU strategic partnership (2003-2018). Although Sino-European political cooperation remains limited, it continues to evolve as a response to political and economic challenges of the time. China and the EU can work together on humanitarian problems and cooperate against piracy and drug trafficking. Considering the financial capabilities of the PRC, Beijing and Brussels can maintain Eurasian security and restore post-crisis economies.
