On the basis of international statistical reports and official data from the national bureau of statistics of Russia and China, the article analyzes the geographical, sectoral, and institutional aspects of the Chinese FDI distribution in twelve African countries in 2007-2017; based on the methods of regression analysis (OLS), the prevailing motives of Chinese investors in African countries are revealed, as well as the hypothesis about the existence of a single prevailing factor determining China's interest in the region is rejected.
