China-Russia energy strategic cooperation: challenges and prospects

The present research provides the author's analysis of the main reasons and motivations for the deepening of strategic energy cooperation between China and Russia. There are analyzed the foreign policy circumstances and factors of development of strategic energy cooperation between China and Russia, taking into account three aspects: security, politics and economy. Based on the study of the international and domestic energy market conditions of the two countries, the strategic goals of Chinese-Russian energy strategic cooperation are put forward, and strategic ways to deepen energy strategic cooperation are identified. Energy cooperation, as a key area of Chinese-Russian cooperation in general, is considered not only as an important basis for the national strategy and national interests of the two countries in the “post-epidemic era", but also in the perspective of comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership between China and Russia in the new era. Such cooperation can be characterized as focused, global, long-term and systemic. In the context of the global energy model, the present research considers the deepening of Chinese-Russian relations as a factor in the economic development of Eurasia and the Asia-Pacific region, the formation of a favorable energy geopolitical environment. Along with leading political cooperation, considerable attention is paid to the task of deepening energy cooperation within the framework of the integration of the SREB and the EAEU. It is emphasized that the joint creation of an energy market mechanism that protects the energy security and economic development of the two countries makes it possible to prevent the risks of the global energy market.
