Classification and typology of the regions of the North Caucasus-federal district

The high heterogeneity and differentiation of the regions of the country, the high level of spatial polarization make it necessary to find out what kind of internal potential the regions have in order to use it most effectively. It is possible to implement such a task through a typology of regions. There are various ways of assigning regions to a certain type and at the same time the country level is considered, but the main socio-economic processes occur at the level of individual regions and districts. The purpose of the study is to group (mini-typology) the regions of the federal district according to the level of socio-economic development in order to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each region, which will make it possible to develop recommendations for the effective use of strengths and the elimination of bottlenecks. The materialization of the results obtained will allow the subjects of the study district to identify promising economic specializations that can become points of growth, identify the potential opportunities that the subject of the district has, choose the optimal regional structure of the economy, create competitive advantages, use it when developing a development strategy, make changes and adjustments to existing plans and development programs. The implementation of the measures arising from the study will improve the effectiveness of the regional policy pursued by the state and avoid making erroneous decisions.
