This sector has about 16 areas and, depending on the classification, includes art, design, fashion, computer graphics, animation, computer game development, IT, architecture, urbanism, cinema, TV, new media, music, marketing and communications, education in the field of creative industries, etc. The study of the possibilities and directions of the development of creative industries is important from the point of view of identifying development factors and evaluating the effectiveness of the development of creative technologies in the context of the national economy and individual regions. The purpose of this work is to compare the subjects of the Russian Federation by the level of development of creative industries. The authors of the article clustered the subjects of the Russian Federation on the basis of four groups of indicators on the development of creative industries and on the conditions in which creative industries are developing: socio-economic conditions, cultural environment, economy of creative industries, support for creative industries. The regions were divided into 7 clusters and the regions were distributed by clusters. The importance and great potential of creative technologies for the development of the national economy, proven by researchers, determines the importance of researching effective ways to support and develop creative industries in the Russian Federation.
