A comparative analysis of efficacy and safety of carotid endarterectomy and transluminal balloon angioplasty with stenting of carotid arteries for primary and secondary prevention of ateroembolic (trombotic) ischemic stroke is presented. The problem of selection of surgical method of cerebral artery revascularization is discussed. The conception of the clinical safety of open and endovascular interventions on carotid arteries in the treatment and prevention of ischemic stroke is suggested.
