The article is devoted to the most important vectors of the development of historiosophical discourse integrated into the ecclesiological problems of the XX century, also known as the “ecclesiology of catholicity”. In addition to the ecclesiology of catholicity, the traditions of Russian historiosophical thought, originating from the XI and especially from the XV centuries, were also of particular importance for the development of the theology of history at this time. The crisis of church thought, nurtured on the idea of the “Third Rome”, caused by the cataclysms of the early XX century, gave rise to various formats of conceptual attitude to history in theological thought: “longing for the lost”, “disappointment in history” and “dialectical rethinking of history”. For three generations of theologians, these key intentions have been developing, integrated with ecclesiological thought, serving to form such competing trends in theology as neopatristic synthesis and Eucharistic ecclesiology. Within their framework, many historical and theological issues have been touched upon for a century: the relationship of history and metahistory, freedom and necessity in history, the role and relations of the Church and the world in historical processes, the end of history and the fate of mankind, etc.
