The paper presents a historiographikal analysis of L. Gumilyov's studies devoted to genesis of nomadic civilizations. Specific features of nomadic culture of Central Asia are considered from Gumilyov's point of view and a comparison of his views with modern theoretical achievements of orientalists is given.
