Cognitive mechanisms of eponyms underlying the language units designating the English names of diseases

Бесплатный доступ

In this article, we have considered the cognitive models that underlie the language units denoting the English names of diseases. By dividing eponymous names into four groups: the name of the disease by the name of the author who first described the disease or its symptom, the names of the diseases formed by the surname of the carriers or the person in whom it was first discovered, the names of the diseases formed by the name of the place / geographical name, the names of the diseases by the name of literary characters, legendary and mythical heroes, historical figures - we assumed that the following ICMs stand behind them: ICM “Relationship of production”, ICM “Relationship of possession”, ICM “Relationship of possession”, ICM “Spatial relations” implemented within the framework of the model PART 1 - PART 2 , as well as ICM “Object and its parts” within the framework of the WHOLE -PART model.
