Computer tomography in the prognosis of anterior cruciate ligament injuries of the knee

The author used CT in 51 patients for studying variants of femoral intercondylar fossa (ICF). He presented its three types A, B and C, which are more common. The scheme for calculation of the femoral intercondylar index (ICI), reserve space for the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and their role in prognosing ACL injuries are given in the work. ICF of A type, which has sufficient reserve space and ICI above 1.0, is the most favourable variant. Marginal resection of femoral external condyle should be made in ACL restoration in patients with ICF of B and C types to increase the reserve space and prevent its repeat injuries.
