The article examines development prospects of the special economic zone “Ulyanovsk". An analysis of the special economic zone’s functioning is carried out with application of the strategic mind-set principle. The authors carry out a SWOT-analysis of the Ulyanovsk region’s conditions in the context of development of the the special economic zone of the port type. The research calculates net profit and net present value of the project of the special economic zone of the port type in the Ulyanovsk region.
