The article provides an analysis of the possibilities of complex expert research (traceological and physical- chemical) traces of fuels and lubricants. At a certain temperature gradient, when in contact with the surface, individual drops of working fluids of cars exhibit weak physicochemical interactions. Depending on the surface properties and composition of fuels and lubricants, the formation of an adsorption layer of a special structure is possible. This allows the droplets of working fluids to be attributed to a certain group of fuels and lubricants. This paper presents the results of the preparatory stage of research, the regularity of the formation of the microstructure of droplets of automobile oils on various metal surfaces.
