We analized the complex criteria of self-purification assessment of water stream. Criteria were combined into three main groups: physical and chemical, chemical and biochemical. Major factors which activate self-purificaton were revealed for each group. The applicability of criteria for water quality assessment in the State Observation Network is discussed.
