Concept of English national character in Maugham's works (based on the material of 1920–1930)

This article is about English national character in Maugham’s works of 20–30-ies of the 19th century. The topicality of this work is caused by the necessity to work out the idea of national character and its realization in the author’s prose. The subject of national idea is described by the author using binary opposition «West – East», where the West takes a predominating place with obvious imposing of alien traditions, customs, morals to a person from the East.
