The article is devoted to the analysis of the concept of ordinary legal consciousness in Russian legal science and the relationship of this category with other legal phenomena. Ordinary legal consciousness is analysed as a theoretical concept and as a topic of empirical research. Regardless of the fact that considerable attention is paid to various aspects of legal awareness in research, the ordinary legal consciousness in Russian legal science is insufficiently studied. Embodied in habits and beliefs, ordinary legal consciousness represents a subjective attitude to legal phenomena, norms and institutions from ordinary citizens. This type of legal awareness employs legal ideology and legal culture in its structure. A great importance is attached to legal education to develop a positive attitude towards legal provisions. The article comes to the conclusion that ordinary legal consciousness in Russia takes extreme forms due to the prevailing socio-economic conditions, cultural code and mentality. The acceptance of legal phenomena can be achieved through a reorientation towards economic and social transformation with a positive effect for ordinary citizens, the adoption of legal norms appropriate to the interests of citizens, increasing respect for the judicial system and the authority of justice and improving the practical implementation of legal regulation.
