The food supply of the regions is the most important condition for achieving the food security of the state. In this regard, the highly organized functioning of food systems in the regions is of great importance. This study is devoted to the substantiation of conceptual approaches to understanding the essence and content of the food supply system of the region as a socio-economic phenomenon and the basis of the country's food security. Food supply is presented as a system and a systematically organized business process; a model of the cyclical-functional structure of the region's food supply system is proposed. The food supply system of the region was studied using the synergistic method and the holistic principle. This system in certain periods of time may be characterized by different types of "behavior" (active, reactive, adaptive), based on a combination of a complex of various factors affecting its state and development. Optimal is adaptive "behavior", in which the system develops under the influence of environmental conditions, using self-regulation of relationships between subsystems. The authors indicated the need to identify and eliminate contradictions between the structural components of the food supply system and the external environment.
