The analysis of scientific views on the development of social and economic systems is presented in the article. Reasons, on the one hand, aggravating the problem of their sustainability from the point of view of observing centeredness of economic growth and increase in the level and life quality of the population and, on the other hand, preserving the environment are ascertained.
