The key task of development of pharmaceutical industry in Russian Federation is to increase the level of self-sufficiency of the country in all major pharmacological groups of pharmaceutical products, which in addition to increasing national security will also reduce the country’s dependence on the emerging foreign policy and relations with importing countries. Under conditions of limited financing of pharmaceutical production development inside the country, localization of production of foreign companies on its territory becomes the key direction. All this contributes to the change in the domestic pharmaceutical market conditions in recent years, which determines the relevance of the research. The study assesses changes in the domestic pharmaceutical market conditions in the current economic environment, identifying the main trends and their causes. It is established that the forced changes in the domestic pharmaceutical market, which occurred in recent years on the background of foreign political instability, caused changes in the market conditions. First of all, it affected the ratio of imported and domestic drugs on the market: if before the share of sold imported drugs was at 70%, in 2019-2020 this figure was reduced to 56%, and in physical terms - to 31%. Only as a result of localization of pharmaceutical production inside the country it was possible to reduce the volume of net imports in recent years, which is an important step towards reducing the import dependence of the country and increasing the availability of pharmaceutical products for the population by reducing the cost of circulation.
