In this article, the author analyzes the USSR Constitution (1936) as a monument of law; he pays his attention to the procedure for its adoption, the basic provisions, as well as the connection with the real political processes of the Soviet state. The connection of the USSR Constitution of 1936 with the political repressions of that time is examined separately; scientific views on this issue are presented. The author comes to the conclusion that it is not entirely correct to look for the reasons of Stalinist repressions in the USSR Constitution of 1936.
