The article presents an attempt to improve the quality of grain harvesting. It is known that purity and quality of harvesting grain crops largely depend on optimization of a process and the timing of a unit operation. The technology of harvesting grain crops by the method of stripping on the root was considered. The operating mode and design parameters of a stripping header rotor directly affect the quality of grain harvesting. Influence of a cultivated crop height interval on the percentage of seed loss during harvesting was considered. During theoretical studies of the stripping header elements design parameters, we made an attempt to study the process of stripping grains with stripper fingers in order to determine the optimal radius of the stripping rotor. To estimate the optimal stripping rotor radius, it is necessary to determine a number of parameters: the start angle and the end angle of the stripping process relative to the location of the stripper fingers. A path traveled by the harvester at the moment of capturing the stripper fingers in the process of stripping is calculated. The dependences of the angle of beginning and end of the stripping process are given for the complete capture and removal of the grain mass by the stripping fingers. The obtained dependences allowed reducing the chances of clogging the striper fingers with stems of the cultivated crops. The theoretical analysis allowed concluding that for effective removal of grains from the stem, the stem area interacting with the stripper fingers should be greater than the area where the grains are located. The calculated design parameters of the stripping rotor allowed determining the angles of the beginning and the end of the stripping process and the estimated stripping rotor radius.
