The cooperative association of spiritual writers “Soborny razum” (1918) and its newspaper and magazine press

2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the Renovationist schism in the Russian Orthodox Church. What was its relationship with the Cooperative Association of Spiritual Writers “Soborny Razum,” where the future leaders of the Renovationist schism worked? This issue has not yet been studied. The activities of the Cooperative Association are not described and the printed matter has not been analyzed. In the conditions of a revolutionary time, when there was almost no spiritual literature, the Cooperative Association began publishing books and magazines of a religious and educational nature, promoting the synthesis of the religious and the social. The article presents the results of a study of the activities of this publishing collective, summarizes the topics of publications, analyzes their ideological orientation, provides information about its organizers and writers who played the first roles in the Renovationist schism of the 1920s. The author comes to the conclusion that the “Soborny Razum”, represented by its founders, was moving towards a non-canonical church reform in Russia.
