Information technologies development contributes to network communications which reflect the new communication forms between people, and crowdfunding holds a specific place among them. The relevance of the research is defined by the fast development of crowdfunding and insufficient knowledge of this subject in the context of sociology. This article presents the author's approach to studying crowdfunding as a social phenomenon within online network communications. The author introduces an original definition of “crowdfunding”.
