In the article we study the history of peasant resettlement in Western Kazakhstan in the 19 th and early 20 th centuries including the issue of settlers’ land management, tightening control over land in the areas of agricultural colonization. Considerable attention is paid to implementation of the resettlement policy of tsarism and the relationship between the peasant settlers and local nomadic population.
