The authors of the paper compare different points of view on history of a little-known peasant uprising in the village of Burayevo (Birsk County, Ufa province), and also analyze the source base of a topic. In the Soviet historiography such uprisings were unambiguously characterized as «kulak» or «bourgeois and nationalist». When contemporary researchers analyze different sources of the considered period, they come to ambiguous conclusions, which often are very tendentious. Despite an existence of a large number of works on different aspects of history of the Civil war in the territory of the contemporary Republic of Bashkortostan, there are no special historiographic researches on separate insurgent peasant uprisings in regional history. Contemporary scholars have to lean on historiography and source base which were created and postponed in archives, the museums, and libraries during the Soviet period. All of this generates different versions of the events which took place in the village of Burayevo in March, 1918; one could note a lack of consensus in assessment of the peasant uprising of the given period. The tendentiousness did not disappear anywhere, it only has changed its color. At the same time, the papers which are free from tendentiousness are also free from the estimation and assessment; they contain only a simple description, or ascertaining of the facts. That’s why it is necessary to elaborate a new assessment of this event on the basis of the new available methodological approaches to a research of country revolts in the first years of the Soviet power.
