The paper describes the basic tenets of the “macroeconomics of aging”: changing people's behavior under the influence of the social security system in old age, the influence of the working-age population on the rate of economic growth and the dependence of the pension system deficit on the rate of population aging. The work aims to check the theses of the “macroeconomics of aging” in relation to Russia. The reasons for the relevance of the “economy of aging” for modern Russia are described. The research method was a comparative analysis of dynamic phenomena between which the theory of “macroeconomics of aging” reveals a correlation. With the historical and logical approach, a retrospective analysis of the birth rate dynamics in Russia for certain social groups and regions was done, as well as an analysis of the influence of the working-age population on the rate of economic growth from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century, and the analysis of the deficit of the pension system taking into account the detailed items of the pension budget fund. The authors conclude that there is no significant correlation between the development of the state pension system and the birth rate, between the number of working-age people and the rate of economic growth, between the demographic load and the deficit of the pension system. It is concluded that demographic factors are not decisive for the development of the country's economy, and demographic aging is not for the deficit of the pension system.
