The crisis of 1974 in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization: Greece's exit from the military organization of the NATO

In this article the author makes an attempt to analyze one of the internal crises of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In 1974 Greece, the NATO’s member had decided to leave the military organization of the Alliance after the conflict with another participant of the Treaty - Turkey. This event took place eight years after the France’s similar step. In this paper the author examines reasons which Greece withdrew from the NATO military alliance, the Alliance administration’s response and consequences of this decision.
