The article presents a survey of materials on Kofun сulture (namely: сulture of ancient burial mounds), occupied the most part of Japan islands in the early Mediaeval epoch. It was named upon the predominant type of elite burials. The chronology of this culture is given in the article, as well as the brief description of the main finds at burial places and dwelling sites; the connection with contemporary cultures of China and, especially, Korea is also pointed out. This is a part within the course of «Archaeology of the Foreign Asia» for the students preparing for Masters of Arts (History), with the specialty in Oriental studies.
