The culture of familiality: challenges of the time

The article analyzes the contradictions and trends in the development of family culture in modern Russian society. Family culture is considered as one of the leading factors in ensuring sustainable development of society not only from the point of view of demographic problems, but also in the aspect of asserting the continuity of its moral basis. The key component of the family culture is the development of value oriented attitude of family members to the forms of intra family communication regardless of external social and infrastructural conditions. The trajectory of family evolution in the situation of modernity and the transition from patriarchal traditional sociality to post industrial sociality and the changing role of the urban environment in this transition suggests the gradual allocation of independent forms of family life as a priority direction of cultural goal setting. The main purpose of the article is to substantiate the dominant role of familiality in the experience of an individual’s self consciousness and the affirmation of the family itself as a key value that contributes to strengthening the integrity and wholeness of postcrisis Russian society. The object of the study is the modern family; the subject of the study is family and family relations in the unity of their historical and axiological facets. The theoretical foundations and methodology of the study are based on a comprehensive sociocultural approach, within the framework of which structural functional (gender, institutional) and value meaning facets of family life are considered in unity. Family life as a form of connection and relations between close relatives has historically developed as the most harmonious way of preserving the traditional cultural identity of the individual. The material of the study is a conceptual generalization of the main trends in the development of the family in the scale of transition from the traditional patriarchal way of life to the modern one. The result of the study is the revealed contradictions of the dynamics of family dynamics and family relations under the influence of Western hedonistic ideology. The popularity and «glamorous» style of the idea of gender «partnership» and alternative practices of organizing sexual relations within the traditional family structure lead to the opposite result: the family turns out to be a sum of external frameworks for an individual, in which the personal life «scenario» is alienated.
