The article deals with cultural and anthropological theories of fashion development in the system of culture. Basing upon research of Mary Douglas's ideas of fashion trend as a deviation from the norm and Clifford Geertz's conception of correlation between models of past and models for future as a fashion trends balance, the author concludes that the process of clothes change often begins with the search for a meaning.
