Cultural and educational activities of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society in the socio-cultural space of the provincial town of Murom, Vladimir region

The author studies the contribution of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society to the development of cultural and educational activities in the pre-revolutionary Russian provincial town of Murom, Vladimir region. Using the method of historiographical and source analysis, the author reveals the reasons for the formation of the society and analyzes the goals and objectives of its activity. The author gives examples of the cultural and educational activities of the society, describes its impact on the life and culture of the town. The significance of Murom for Russian culture, associated with the presence of many significant Christian shrines and stories, is explained. The author analyzes the religious life of Murom in the Soviet period of the heyday of Stalinism, as well as the later history of the restoration of churches and Orthodox culture in general.
