Introduction: The article analyses the cultural aspects that contributed to the establishment of the copyright system in France, with particular attention to the role of philosophical ideas of the Enlightenment and events of the Great French Revolution. The main subject of research is the interaction of cultural transformations with the development of theoretical foundations of copyright. The French philosophy of enlightenment and revolutionary processes have had a significant influence on the development of the copyright system not only in France, but also in other countries of the world, including Russia. Their study contributes to a deeper understanding of how social and political changes and philosophical ideas contribute to the formation of legal norms. An investigation of the historical context of the development of the copyright system in France shows how the philosophy of the Enlightenment and revolutionary processes influenced the development of copyright. For Russia, understanding these fundamentals can help in the comprehension and adaptation of national legislation to modern challenges and show the need to consider cultural and historical aspects when developing legal norms.
