To study the basis, the essential foundations of a particular cultural system, it is methodologically appropriate to refer to the concept of the cultural code, which is a set of key concepts, attitudes, values and norms in the system of public consciousness. The reconstruction of cultural codes is possible by analyzing the objectified results of human activity, among which art occupies a special place due to the special, figurative, artistic nature of its language. The author analyzed somatic concepts of the head and face in the male images of works of Russian painters and sculptors during the Great Patriotic War. This analysis allows us to state the existence in the mental structures of public consciousness of cultural codes associated with the ideas of the Soviet man, before everything else, as a fearless warrior-hero, reliable defender, true patriot, faithful son of his Fatherland.
