This article is devoted to the problem of cultural coding as a way to increase the tourist attractiveness of the region on the example of the Ulyanovsk region. Human cognition of the environment occurs in the form of reading certain "codes", while cultural coding is a way of storing and broadcasting cultural principles and meanings in society. The cultural code of the city/region is a kind of intermediary between the past, present and future of the city. The cultural code can be developed and applied in different spheres of life: under-standing the culture of other peoples, understanding the native culture, architectural development of cities, etc., which plays an important role in the development of tourism. Tourism development technologies based on cultural coding are aimed at preserving and promoting the unique cultural characteristics of the region, forming its image, contributing to the creation of new tourist products and attracting tourists to the region.
