This article is devoted to the one of unstudied issues in the history of Russian America — The Yukon mission. Russian Orthodox missioners, carrying out spiritual and educational activities among the Indians and the Eskimos in Alaska, made an invaluable contribution to the flourishing of the American Orthodox mission on North America in the 1820-1850s. There are discussed conditions for the development of the mission in the northwestern region of Alaska, remote from the center of Russian overseas colony. The article focuses on the financing of the Yukon mission, Russian Empire legislation, the features of the unique lifestyle habits of autochthons of Russian America and their mentality.
