The article deals with the formation of legislation in Russia and abroad that regulates the turnover of the cryptocurrency. It is substantiated that, in its economic essence, it is a means of payment and acts in the property turnover as a speculative instrument and a means of attracting capital. Bills on the regulation of digital financial assets and digital rights are analyzed, their significant shortcomings are noted.
