The subject of this article is the lexicographical description of the word lawyer in the «Dictionary of the language of M. E. Saltykov-Schedrin». The authors determine the lexical meaning of the word, as well as its contextual and associative links. All this creates a special area for commentaries, which describe the specifics of the author`s understanding of this important cultural concept in the general context of Russian literature.
