Forests of local significance - the forgotten environmental problem of the Penza province in the 1920s

The author focuses on the course of transfer of “forests of local significance” to the population in the Penza province and the environmental consequences of this process. The article contains the data on forest cover of the province in total and particular counties. The situation with forests of local significance in Penza province is examined in the context of the general situation in the country and in the Volga region.
