A huge contribution to the formation of the source base for the study of the history and culture of Irkutsk was made by Nit Stepanovich Romanov, an ascetic local historian, whose painstaking and thorough work to collect and accumulate the rarest material led to the preservation of unique monuments and evidence of the era.
