The author examines such an element of the criminalistic characteristics of murders committed for hire as the identity of the criminal. It is concluded that both the customer, the contractor, and the organizer will be guilty of committing this crime. At the same time, their personalities will be completely different. In each act of investigation, the investigator must concentrate on establishing the links in the chain of the customer - contractor. To do this, it is necessary to carry out an exhaustive amount of investigative actions and a set of operational search measures, depending on the signs of traces of a crime left by the offender.
