In this article, we provide a description of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis as a risk factor for ischemic stroke. We evaluated duplex scanning of the brachiocephalic junction as an innovative non-invasive technology for the diagnosis of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis. We also covered the principles of aggressive lipid-regulating pharmacotherapy with statins.
