The article discusses the genre specifics of the lyrical short stories (novellas) by Ivan Bunin. It is proved that the novelistic tendencies in the writer’s poetry reflect a new (essentially phenomenological) method of artistic thinking. External pictures of being perform the functions of lyrical introspection. The article also reveals the links between existential attitudes of the author and semantic structure of the short story.
